At an early age, Donna Davis thought she would be a newspaper
reporter, but didn't realize that dream would eventually morph into a
radio career.
It all started with her own "handwritten" community newspaper at age
9, complete with a front page profile, neighborhood events, cartoons
and want ads. She loved the smell of "mimeograph ink" when she edited
her 5th Grade Newspaper "The Tiger Beat" at St Joseph the Worker
Elementary School in Gary, IN.
She took writing courses in High School, pondered Journalism but chose
to major in Communications at Indiana University and Columbia College.
She landed her first on air gig doing morning news a few months shy of
her graduation in 1985. Fast forward over a handful of radio news jobs
around the Midwest..to two morning shows, one in Peoria at KZ93 and
the other in San Diego at Star 100.7...to a stint at WMAQ Radio, where
she did "overnight" news and "fill-in" work just to be there..hey 39
states and 4 Canadian Provinces. A long time Chicago area girl..it was
a dream come true.
Davis arrived in South Florida in late 1997. She landed an airborne
traffic reporter position at Metro Networks and flew the SoFla skies
reporting traffic for Majic 102.7, several other radio stations and
WSVN-TV until she joined RIck Shaw as co-host on the Majic 102.7
Morning Show in 2000. She won two "Air Awards" for her early work on
the morning show, netting "Best SoFla Reporter" and "Best Breaking
News Coverage" (for 9/11) in 2001, the last year the Air Awards were
handed out. "RIck and Donna" worked together until Rick Shaw's
retirement in 2007.......she now co-hosts the very same show with Joe
Johnson.
Donna is also a "rabid" animal lover...she and her husband Hugh
adopted two cats, Anna and Gonzo, from the Broward Humane Society, a
little rescue mutt, Max, from Adopt-A-Stray. They work with a variety
of rescue groups to promote pet adoption. They own, and HUGH runs, a
"health food store for Dogs and Cats" Green Paws Pet Market and
Grooming Salon in Plantation.
Donna's favorite charities, or course the Majic Children's Fund, Food
for the Poor and local animal rescue groups.
