FLORIDA RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL
FLORIDA RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL TURNS BACK
THE HOURGLASS TO THE 16TH CENTURY
Deerfield Beach show celebrates 18th year in South Florida
Deerfield Beach, FL – January 2010 – The King, Queen and their royal court of characters return for their 18th year at the Florida Renaissance Festival in Deerfield Beach. Seen by more than one million visitors, the Florida Renaissance Festival opens Saturday, February 13th at Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach for five themed weekends of family fun that runs through March 14th. The 16th Century production features more than 100 costumed performers, 12 stages with continuous entertainment and more than 20 stage acts from around the world.
“Every year during early February, Deerfield Beach steps back in time,” said Bobby Rodriguez, executive producer of the Florida Renaissance Festival. “The realm of fantasy becomes a reality for many of our show goers and every year we introduce new entertainment that has them coming back for more.”
This year’s five themed weekends will include:
- Romance Weekend – Days and Knights of Wine and Roses - Feb 13, 14 & 15
- Pet’s Weekend – Medieval Menagerie - Feb 20 & 21
- Pirates Weekend – Pillage of the Village - Feb 27 & 28
- Wenches Weekend – Bodacious Bodices - March 6 & 7
- Celtic Weekend – Kiss the Blarney Stone - Mar 13 & 14
During the five themed weekends, guests will enjoy jousting tournaments three times a day, hearty food and human powered rides and games for children that include the World’s Largest Rocking Horse, Giant Chess, Barrel Rides, and games of strength and skill. The festival features mystical characters, live entertainment, food and over 100 artisans.
New and exciting acts combine with old favorites to delight guests throughout the festival. These include: The Rogues, a high-energy Celtic music based quartet that has played at various Renaissance and Victorian festivals throughout the U.S. and Iris & Rose, a comedic musical duo of sisters that will have their audiences literally in stitches with their non-traditional fun performances.
The festivities will feature historical reenactments, sword fights, magical illusions and an abundance of authentic fare from freshly made kettle corn to roasted giant turkey legs, which can be washed down with a swig of mead or ale.
The Florida Renaissance Festival is produced by the National, award winning Bobby Rodriguez Productions and strives to create an entertaining and cultural opportunity by making Renaissance history come to life for both children and adults. The sponsors of the Florida Renaissance Festival include Warsteiner Beer, Community Bank of Broward, Pepsi, Forum Publishing Group, Magner’s Irish Cider, Chaucer’s Mead and Comcast. The event is hosted by Broward County Parks and Recreation Department.

2010 Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run Series will Benefit the American Red Cross
5K runs which start at Fort Lauderdale’s Huizenga Plaza on April 1, West Palm Beach’s Meyer Amphitheater on April 14, and Miami’s Bayfront Park on April 29.
The American Red Cross is the proud new beneficiary of the 2010 Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run Series – the annual three-circuit race that takes place in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.
“As one of the premier volunteer-led non-profit organizations that help our community respond to, prepare for and prevent disasters daily, we’re honored to be the 2010 official charity for this popular athletic event,” said Sam Tidwell, CEO of the American Red Cross South Florida Region serving Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe counties. “From our volunteers to our staffers, we are all looking forward to helping out behind-the-scenes, and of course, we can’t wait to strap on our running shoes and promote a healthier lifestyle for everyone in South Florida.”
Now in its 25th Year, the Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run Series began in downtown Miami in 1985 with just over 1,300 participants. Last year, more than 22,000 runners took to the streets not just to boost camaraderie among their coworkers, but to promote health and fitness in the workplace.
“We are pleased to be partnering with the Red Cross for the Series, much of our success is based on volunteers as is theirs, without the community and people coming together, we couldn’t be celebrating our 25th year!” said Laurie Huseby of TeamFootWorks, producer of the Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run Series.
All companies, government agencies and non-profit organizations are invited to run the certified 5K runs which start at Fort Lauderdale’s Huizenga Plaza on April 1, West Palm Beach’s Meyer Amphitheater on April 14, and Miami’s Bayfront Park on April 29.
And following a long-standing tradition, the end of the race marks the beginning of the party when most companies reward their employees with great food and drinks. Awards and medals are also given to teams that perform the best in different industry categories and to teams that design the most creative t-shirts.
To request a company registration packet, log on to www.mercedesbenzcorporaterun.com or call
305-666-RACE (7223). Early entry fee is $25 per person.

2010 Relay For Life of East Boca Raton, FL
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At Relay, teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events and 18 hours in length.
Although every Relay For Life is different, there are certain traditions at all Relays, no matter where they are held. These traditions help participants celebrate, remember, and fight back.
Celebrate - The Survivors Lap
Relay starts with a Survivors Lap an inspirational time when survivors are invited to circle the track together and help everyone celebrate the victories we’ve achieved over cancer. The Survivors Lap is an emotional example of how Relay participants are creating a world with more birthdays like those of each individual on the track.
Remember - The Luminaria Ceremony
After dark, we honor people who have been touched by cancer and remember loved ones lost to the disease during the Luminaria Ceremony. Candles are lit inside bags filled with sand, each one bearing the name of a person touched by cancer, and participants often walk a lap in silence.
Fight Back - Fight Back Through Fundraising
Last, there is a chance to fight back against cancer through fundraising. In addition to what the fundraising teams do before the Relay, there are endless fundraising opportunities available onsite. From food, face painters, crafts and more, Relay teams will have plenty of ways for participants and visitors to support the fight against cancer.
No matter where you are, there’s a place for you at Relay and you can make a difference today by signing up online to start your own team or by simply making a donation.
Thanks to Relay participants, we are creating a world with more birthdays a world where cancer can’t claim another year of anyone’s life.
